15 Minutes of Fame

Last year, while at our local stumping grounds, Smithville Park/Rancocas Creek, we were skipping pebbles in the Creek when Liam engaged in conversation with a young fellow, who turned out to be Douglass Bovitt, a photographer for The Courier Post, here in South Jersey. He hit it off with Douglas and next thing you know he asked me if he could take a few photos of the kids. There were no guarantees that the photos would make it to print, but they did! The kids were thrilled to see themselves published in the newspaper.
(Headline, photo and journaling are clippings from the actual newspaper article.)

Scraplift Chall. @t Scrapbook-Graphics! Jellyfish!

Facts: Jellyfish are marine invertebrates belonging to the Scyphozoan class. The body of an adult jellyfish is composed of a bell-shaped, jelly producing substance enclosing its internal structure, from which the creature's tentacles are suspended. Each tentacle is covered with stinging cells (cnidocytes) that can sting or kill other animals: most jellyfish use them to secure prey or as a defense mechanism. Others, such as Rhizostomae, do not have tentacles at all.

To compensate for a lack of basic sensory organs and a brain, the jellyfish exploits its nervous system and rhopalia to perceive stimuli, such as light or odor, and orchestrate expedient responses. In its adult form, it is composed of 94–98% water and can be found in every ocean in the world. Some jelly fish do have these body parts such as the box jelly fish.

Blue and Gold Macaw - Earth Day Fair - Page 1

Hello,

Remember I was telling you about the Earth Fair...well here is my first page.

I am using Reel Inspiration by Michelle Godin...she has some fabulous textured pprs. in this set...with 40 bg. pprs. one can't really go wrong with this kit. The 5 alphas included in this collection are awesome, too. I know I will get a lot of use out of this set.

Today, I went to the Earth Day fair held at the Smithville Mansion in which the Philadelphia Zoo had an exhibit focusing on species of animals that are near extinction in the wild. I was thrilled to see this Macaw, as it is one of my favorite birds. I learned that they may live to be 70 years old and that the greatest problems threatening the macaw population are the rapid rate of deforestation and the illegal trapping of birds for the bird trade. Earth Day Fair

Yesterday was such a fun day for us. We went to the annual Earth Day fair held at the Smithville Mansion.

The mansion is a historical building of Greek Revival architecture; such a grand place, perfect for any type of gatherings.

The big courtyards, the flower gardens, the manicured grounds are just fabulous. I love history and architecture so this is right up my alley.

If you want to learn more about Smithville, click here:
http://www.co.burlington.nj.us/departments/resource_conservation/parks/sites/smithville/info/

As you all know, I am a HUGE nature lover and constatly go on nature walks and bird watching expeditions. I was thrilled to meet JANE KIRKLAND, author of "TAKE A BACKYARD BIRD WALK." She signed our book and even posed for pictures.

Jane Kirkand and her husband, Ron, host a show for kids, Kids Corner, which is on at 7:00 p.m. on radio station 88.5 fm. You may also see her series of books at WWW.TAKEAWALK.COM.

Here are Jane and Ron Kirkland with Kaylie and Liam. They were so friendly and engaged the kids right away.

Kaylie and Liam "milking" a cow.

The kids loved taking part of some of the challenges and crafts. They even had a milking cow so they kids could try their hand at milking it. Two guesses as to who were eager to try this out!

Blue and Gold Macaw

The Philadelphia Zoo has a traveling exhibit highlighting the plight of animals in the wild who are near extinction or are being harmed by poaching.
They had a gorgeous blue and gold Macaw, which is my most favorite! Its colors were so brilliant...truly delightful.

The kids got a chance to see an Albino Snake and an Albino Frog, salamanders, a wolf, rats, sheep, hens with tiny chicks and Llamas. Obviously, they saw kittens and dogs, who were waiting to be adopted.

The food: We had oreos, freshly roasted peanuts, peanut crackers and shaved ice (Mango and Wild Cherry flavors). The fair wouldn't be complete, if we didn't eat the customary FUNNEL CAKE. Can you say delicious?

After we got home, the kids were in the mood for pizza, so I made one. My pizza had mozarella cheese, pizza sauce, ham and mushrooms. Yummy!

You will likely see lots of pages in the coming days highlighting the Earth Fair, but you knew that...didn't you? :)

Have a wonderful day.
Kait signing off.

Michelle Godin's New kit is on sale! Reel Inspiration

Have you heard the news yet? Michelle Godin from Scrapbook-Graphics is going to be having a one day sale on her latest kit, Reel Inspiration. The kit has 40 bg. pprs. and 5 alphas ALL FOR THE LOW PRICE OF $3.00. Can you believe that? You can't even get a decent pack of pprs. for that price anymore. But you got to be quick as it is a one day sale. It will only be on sale on Monday, 6/11!

Here is a preview.

EEEk! It's a Gypsy Moth Caterpillar Invasion!

I guess I must be a photographer at heart because I don't let the fact that caterpillars give me the creeps interfere with me taking a photo. :)

The Gypsy Moth Caterpillars have taken over Long Bridge Park. They can be seen EVERYWHERE. As we headed deep into the woods, the sound of munching leaves could be heard loud and clear. They were devouring leaves like there was no tomorrow. They could be found over the banisters, under the leaves and branches and all over the walkways. As evidenced in the below photo, Kaylie and Liam are trying to maneuver walking around them, to no avail. The kids, who usually fight and scream because they don’t want to depart the park, were begging to leave. June 1, 2007.

Congratulations to Karen!

My fellow ct member, Karen (a/k/a Fortlady) was the winner of a $10.00 gift certificate to uber talented Jen Caputo's store.

Karen was the winner of the May Spirit contest at Scrapbook-Graphics. She dutifully posted the most comments in the gallery. Not only did she get a gift certificate, but she also got her most favorite layout posted in the Scrapbook-Graphics' blog. How exciting!
I can see why she chose this layout as her favorite; it is one of mine, too. :)
Keep up the good work, Karen.
